Drum Horses![]()
For those of you who are interested in my personal straight forward explanation, grab a 'cup o java' and pull up a chair.....

to anyone who loves gypsies, but just need a little more 'oomph' to their horse. They are very athletic horses that can and do excel in dressage as well as many other disciplines.
As Premium Drum Horse
Breeders, we at Celtic Crossings Farm pride ourselves in striving to
protect and improve the breed. As responsible breeders, we only choose horses
- be they mares or stallions - that we feel will honor that. It is by these
high standards that we are able to offer you Elite Drum
Foals!

Drums are commonly referred to as 'crossbreds', 'draft crosses', 'drum crosses', and 'gypsy crosses' by those that do not understand the breed. This tends to make me cringe, as I am not only an admirer, but a breeder. The phrases each hold some truth in the overall blood lines of the Drum Horse, but none of which are completely correct. Drum Horses really are a breed apart. Not only are they recognized as their own breed by two different associations, but they are (in my very biased opinion) the most breathtaking equine breed out there! Drum Horses are the perfect fairytale horse
Ok, now onto their breeding make up. There are only a handful of pure blooded imported Drum stallions and only two imported mares, to my knowledge. They need to have other feathered breeds bred into their lines. Drum horses are so rare in the US that they have what I refer to as an 'open breeding program'. It is similar to when Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, and Paints allowed out crossing to improve their breed. The Drum Horses of America are a combination of Gypsy, Clydesdale, Shire, Friesian, and Imported Drum bloodlines. Careful breeding with the right combination, produces a well feathered pinto horse of warmblood stature that stands at or above 16.0 hands.
What are Drum Horses?
If you are unfamiliar with the breed and want to get some really good information on the Drum Horses' history and their official classifications I will refer you to two great associations......
